About ETE
Ecological Tourism in Europe – Linking Tourism and Conservation e.V. (Ö.T.E.–LT&C) advocates for sustainable tourism worldwide and supports the goals of national strategies and international conventions in the fields of sustainability, biodiversity, and tourism.
We want to bring about a balance between the protection of nature and the social demands of communities in the face of tourism development. To achieve this, we work with tour operators, protected areas, tourism communities, marketing organizations, accommodation providers, and tourists.
What we do:
promote activities in the areas of sustainable tourism
Profile good practice examples of how sustainable tourism supports nature conservation and environmental protection
work on information, education and training initiatives
advise stakeholders in tourism and nature conservation
advise consumers in the field of sustainable tourism
public relations work, dissemination of information on sustainable tourism
participation in planning procedures for tourism projects and in legislative undertakings.
LT&C merged with the German-based Ö.T.E. (Ecological Tourism in Europe E.T.E) in 2023.
The Articles of Association for the new organization are available to read in English and German.
Vision
A world where the tourism industry is a main patron of a global network of well-managed protected areas representing and sustaining the world’s diversity of habitats and ecosystems.
Ö.T.E.–LT&C supports the expected UN-Goal of creating a global protected area network by 2030, which covers representatively 30% of the different marine and terrestrial ecosystems and habitats on earth (the 30×30 Goal).
ETE-LT&C has been coordinating the ‘Sustainable Tourism’ working group of associations in Germany since 1998. You can find more information here
